Prentice Hall Mathematics Research Reports

This comprehensive booklet provides information on all of the research supporting PH Math including the three Randomized Control Trials, the two Effect-Size Studies, and the seven Program Efficacy Studies. The studies span over a seven year period, from 1998–2005 and address student performance of those employing the Prentice Hall Mathematics ©2007 program and programs from which Prentice Hall Mathematics ©2004 was built. The reports represent a variety of research designs and methodology to offer users and potential users a wide body of data from which to draw to make efficacy connections for specific district characteristics and student demographic populations. All reports analyze treatment and control group performance data, demographic characteristics, and pre- and post test scores among other variables to determine the impact of Prentice Hall programs on student achievement. Middle School Randomized Control Study for Prentice Hall Mathematics

Results of this independent research indicate that students using Prentice Hall Mathematics Course 2 showed significant improvement, outperforming students using other mathematics programs. The study of 453 seventh grade students in three geographically diverse schools was designed to meet the evidence criteria put forth by the Federal government.

Algebra 1 Randomized Control Trial

This independently conducted research study of 731 students from three locations showed a significant increase in achievement, as measured by three different standardized assessments, by students using Prentice HallAlgebra 1. The study was designed to fully meet the evidence criteria put forth by the What Works Clearinghouse, the Federal agency established in 2002 to provide educators and the public with a trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education.
