The Pearson Video Challenge is a unique approach that Pearson’s new math program will use to motivate students through real world connections. Students (with a teacher sponsor) will be asked to submit video illustrations of critical mathematics concepts and real-world applications as seen through their eyes.

We anticipate a YouTube-style video, typically 2-4 minutes in length, that will be relevant and engaging to the student population. Because these videos are student-generated, they are “real” for other students, and motivating to students who view them. Explanations of the mathematics involved will be in student voices, a delivery of instruction that has been shown to increase student performance. Students will be “self-publishing” for their classroom as they do currently for their friends, making mathematics something that is much more meaningful.

Pearson is looking to partner with your school district to establish a core set of videos for Spring 2009!
