Rethinking Algebra

 
 

The Rethinking Algebra program helps math educators, coaches and district coordinators at grades 6–10 enhance mathematics instruction for all students through the use of student-centered teaching practices that advance higher level understanding of algebraic concepts. This algebra achievement professional development program helps educators:

  • Teach for understanding of algebraic concepts
  • Make connections among topics of school algebra
  • Promote the development of problem-solving skills
  • Identify and address common misconceptions in learning algebra

 

OUTCOMES: By the end of the program participants will be able to:

  • Support simultaneous development of conceptual understanding of algebraic concepts and problem-solving
  • Identify and address common misconceptions in learning algebra
  • Make connections among topics of school algebra
  • Make mathematical tasks worthwhile and engaging for all students
  • Identify instructional skills and strategies that support purposeful struggle and making explicit the mathematical relationship between ideas, facts and procedures

 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Math Directors, Coordinators, Coaches and Educators in Grades 6-10
