Head Start

Head Start provides prekindergarten programs for children living in poverty. The program is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services.


Distribution: Competitive grants are awarded to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies.

Use of Funds: Head Start has a special focus on helping preschoolers develop early reading and math skills. Head Start grants provide comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.
