Dr. Jim Cummins
One of the world’s leading authorities on language acquisition Dr. Cummins is a professor and research chair at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. His research focuses on language and literacy development in multilingual schools. Dr. Cummins has collaborated with Pearson to outline a five-principle framework of instruction for teaching content-area subjects to English language learners.
Fitchburg Public Schools
Making a difference for English language learners Fitchburg Public Schools was awarded a grant by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop a content-based ESL curriculum. The district needed materials to help students better access the content of mathematics classes. As a result, Fitchburg developed the curriculum that serves as the foundation for Language Central for Math.
