Interactive Science: A Science Curriculum by Pearson

Reach, Teach, and Have Fun!

Research has shown that when students are engaged in their learning, they feel a sense of ownership resulting in increased achievement. Interactive Science is different. It gives students ownership, engages them with multiple ways to experience the content and big ideas of science, and ensures that they are always active learners.

Below is a series of videos that explain and explore Interactive Science. For each step, you will hear from students and teachers actually using the program. STEP 1

What is Science?

Science means different things to different people. Some people hear ”science” and think, experiments! Others think of science fiction and voyages through space and time.

For many of us, science is a source of wonder and excitement--it means understanding “why”.

Let’s begin by hearing what students think about science in their own words. From there, we’ll explore Interactive Science, why it was created as it was, and how it will work for your classroom, teaching style, and students.

STEP 2

Interactive Science is an exciting new program that makes learning personal, engaging, and relevant for today’s students.

Interactive Science gets students active – active every day, every topic, every lesson.

  • It all starts with an innovative write-in student edition. This enables students to become active participants in their learning and truly connect the Big Ideas of Science to their world.
  • Students learn science by doing science, so the program has scaffolded inquiry – from informal to formal, classroom to living room.
  • You’ll hold the attention of your media-savvy learners with digital and online teaching options that blend seamlessly with the write-in student edition to create a unique experience for all learning and teaching styles.

STEP 3

A write-in student edition may sound like a “workbook,” but think again.

The Interactive Science write-in student edition is a consumable, interactive tool where students can take notes, answer questions, draw, circle, underline, and much more – all at point of use. In short, this gives students a medium to process concepts and information WHILE they read.

In this way, students, teachers, and parents can all see what students are learning, doing, and understanding in an exceptionally transparent fashion.

STEP 4

“Messy, exciting, fun, and beautiful – but also logical, exacting, and demanding of hard work. That’s why I like science and why it’s important for kids to do science in school every year.”

‐‐ Michael Padilla, program author

Interactive Science features a variety of hands-on and minds-on inquiry options to keep all your students engaged. Materials kits, virtual labs, and a wide variety of blackline masters provide opportunities for inquiry every day.

What about inquiry?

STEP 5

Today’s learners are digital learners, and with the Interactive Science digital courseware, technology means much more than simply “press play”. Students will answer questions, observe, predict, see videos, virtual labs, and provide feedback for teachers that can be used for assessment or remediation.

These digital tools provide multiple pathways into the content and topics students are learning to increase comprehension and test scores. Interactive Science creates active learners that have a greater ability to transfer learning.
