Under the No Child Left Behind law, if a school fails to make Adequate Yearly Progress for two years in a row, they enter school improvement status. The federal School Improvement funds are focused on schools in year 3 improvement and beyond.
Distribution: The funding distribution is determined by each state and can provide between $50,000 to $500,000 per targeted school.
How the funds can be used: Funds can be used for intervention for students failing AYP, tutoring, professional development, coaches, outside experts, etc.
