Event-Based Science

This research and standards-based NSF program taps into your students' natural curiosity, exploring the scientific concepts behind powerful events such as a tornado, the first flight, and the dynamics of riding a roller coaster. Students explore the content through hands-on activities, newspaper articles, and data collection, while testing out their hypotheses. Working in teams on an authentic task, they assume the roles of professionals working in the field. Scoring rubrics allow teachers to assess students on their performance.

A great complement to Science Explorer! Add a unique, real-world dimension to Prentice Hall Science Explorer or any middle school science program! For example, if you're teaching from the Prentice Hall Science Explorer title Inside Earth, you can reinforce key concepts through the Earthquake!, Gold Rush!, and Volcano! modules of Event-Based Science.
