How can early childhood teachers set the stage for developing college-and-career ready readers and writers? The Early Childhood Institute provides Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers with an integrated overview of strategies and processes that support the development of early literacy. Explore strategies for developing oral language in young children. Participants discuss ways to scaffold and model aspects of rich, mature play to stimulate meaningful and interesting conversations. Investigate the strategies required to provide print-rich environments that incorporate opportunities and tools for children to see and use written language for a variety of purposes. Explore the stages of music and motor development in young children and their connection to social, emotional, and cognitive development. Furthermore, learn to structure centers (in all content areas) that promote sustained play, positive social interaction, and language development while providing meaningful opportunities for choice.
