Yes, Assessment Should Guide YOUR Mathematics Planning and Teaching: The Formative 5

September 14, 2017 04:00 PM EST - September 14, 2017 05:00 PM EST

Do you really know what your students are thinking as they are learning mathematics? How can you find out? What will you do next? This webinar addresses teacher challenges and questions in using formative assessment to regularly guide planning and teaching, and monitor student progress in mathematics. This session will present teacher and classroom-tested formative assessment techniques that are doable—every day—and that make a difference. The Formative 5 is a palette of the techniques that research shows provide the most effective assessment “daily game plan” for any mathematics classroom. Join us as we explore how Observations, Interviews, the "Show Me" strategy, Hinge Questions, and Exit tasks can truly impact and transform your planning and teaching.

Outcomes:

Participants will:

  • Understand the impact of formative assessment as a critical element of the assessment spectrum, and how to regularly use particular assessment techniques to impact planning and instruction.
  • Understand the importance of an everyday “plan” for the use of formative assessment.
  • Learn how particular formative assessment techniques (observations, interviews, Show Me, hinge questions, and exit tasks) can be used, each day, to guide planning and teaching and monitor student progress.
