Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

To help with the recovery, the Pearson Foundation has established a Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. In addition to the core fund, the Pearson Foundation is matching our employees' donations. The Foundation will work with local officials, relief organizations and schools to disburse the Fund to help with recovery in the weeks and months to come. Many communities are just now beginning to assess the extent of their damage and Pearson is continuing outreach to officials in NY and NJ to see how we can best help.

Pearson Working Directly with Schools

Pearson representatives are working directly with schools affected by the hurricane -- as well as those districts that have opened their doors to displaced students -- to replace lost textbooks and other instructional materials. We are addressing individual needs and circumstances of each school as quickly as possible.

Districts cannot wait for the processing of insurance claims or FEMA help -- Pearson is immediately providing:

  • Texts at two-for-one replacement cost
  • Six-month deferred payment terms.
  • Expedited shipping

Our goal is to help schools in need so that children can resume their learning now without further disruption.

For replacement texts, Schools can get in touch with their Pearson representative directly or contact:

Pearson Stepping Up to Help Victims

Pearson people around the world are also stepping up to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. To help with the recovery, they're making cash donations to the Pearson Foundation's Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Fund. These contributions—which are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Pearson Foundation will provide much needed aid to local officials, relief organizations, and schools as they recover. The Pearson Foundation has already begun making grants to help support community-based relief efforts.

Pearson people are also helping to spread the word about the potential impact of the Pearson Foundation's We Give Books initiative. For each free children's book read online at, the Pearson Foundation will donate a brand new hard-cover or paperback book to a school or community organization impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Pearson people are helping to get the word out among local schools and libraries across the United States, encouraging young people everywhere to take part in the recovery effort.
