Emphasis on Principles, Processes, and Institutions
This text is titled, Government by the People because the Author want to emphasize the important role people play in our constitutional democracy. Understanding American politics and government must include an appreciation of the people, their similarities and differences, their beliefs and attitudes, and their behaviors. A foundation of that understanding of the people is our chapter on the American political landscape in which we examine such aspects of our population as race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, income, and region. Our country is diverse and that diversity is important politically.
